Students in Ho Chi Minh City who have encountered difficulties in online learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic have received support from local authorities and donors to continue their study.

HCM City (VNA) – Students in Ho ChiMinh City who have encountered difficulties in online learning amid the COVID-19pandemic have received support from local authorities and donors to continuetheir study.

Statistics from the municipal Department ofEducation and Training revealed that more than 70,000 students in the city lackeither access to the internet or electric devices to study online.

Of nearly 650,000 primary school students, more than55,000 lack the necessary equipment and a stable internet connection. Some aretemporarily staying in the countryside and cannot return to the city.

At secondary and high school levels, which havenearly 700,000 students, as many as 17,000 pupils do not have internet accessand the necessary equipment, while 5,000 have the equipment but have nointernet connection.

However, thanks to the assistance of all-level administrationsand donors, many of them have been able to access online classes.

The local educational sector, agencies andlocalities have drawn up flexible, specific teaching plans and models matchingthe latest situation, in line with COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.

Teachers of Minh Duc Secondary School in District 1have initiated a model, under which they call for the donation of used smartphones and laptops to their students.

Within more than one week, no more students of theschool lacked electric devices to log into online classes, according to headmasterof the school Tran Thuy An.

Similar programmes have also been launched by associationsand organisations over the past time to aid students with used devices andleaning equipment.

Local youths have also maintained free classes butin the online format for children in difficult circumstances. More than 300students and teachers have voluntarily joined the programme.

Despite a lack of teachers and study materials, suchclasses have opened daily, making parents feel secure as their children stillcontinue their study amid complex developments of the pandemic./.
