Students to compete at Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei

Vietnam athletes will leave today for the 2017 Summer Universiade, the world sport games for students which will be organised in Chinese Taipei from August 19-30.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamathletes will leave today for the 2017 Summer Universiade, the world sportgames for students which will be organised in Chinese Taipei from August 19-30.

The delegation will take part infour sports including athletics, karate, wushu and gymnastics.

At the 29th edition of thefestival, 14 sports including athletics, basketball, fencing, gymnastics andswimming are compulsory. Seven are optional and only billiards is ademonstration event.

More than 7,600 athletes from 131countries and territories will compete in the 12-day tournament.

Football and water polo are twosports that begin on August 18, one day before the opening ceremony.

The Universiade, which isorganised every two years, is the ultimate dream for university athletesworldwide. It is one of the highest-profile international sporting events,second only to the Olympic Games, in terms of the variety of competitions andthe number of participating countries and athletes.

In the last Universiade in theRepublic of Korea, Vietnam grabbed two bronze medals in taekwondo and finished58th among 141 participants.

The Republic of Korea topped thetable with 47 golds, Russia and China were second and third, respectively.-VNA

Moscow to host Vietnam Culture Festival for first time

Festival-goers will be treated to performances of Vietnamese water puppetry, enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and take part in creative cooking workshops. There will be a special art programme which features performances by artists from both countries, showcasing the sounds of traditional Vietnamese instruments.

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–Israel cultural ties
