Sympathy to China over landslide in Sichuan province

President Tran Dai Quang on June 24 sent a message of sympathy to China over the serious loss of human life and property caused by landslides in China’s southwest province of Sichuan.

Hanoi (VNA) – President TranDai Quang on June 24 sent a message of sympathy to the President and Party GeneralSecretary of China Xi Jinping over the serious loss of human life and propertycaused by landslides in China’s southwest province of Sichuan.

Deputy Prime Minister and ForeignMinister Pham Binh Minh also offered his condolences to China’s State CouncillorYang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

A landslide hit Xinmo village in Diexi township, Maoxian County inearly morning on June 24, burying more than 120 people from 52 homes.

According to Xinhua news agency, over 3,000 rescuers are racing againsttime to save the trapped people. Fifteen people have been confirmed dead while 118others are missing.-VNA

According to historical records, the area once served as an operational base for units of Regiments 609, 66, 24 and 320, as well as staff and logistics agencies of the Central Highlands front (B3) during the 1966–1969 period.
