India's trade deficit with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has more than doubled since the implementation of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) in 2010.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya lauded the robust and healthy progress of the Vietnam – India comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 and shared plans and orientations aimed at elevating the bilateral relations with Vietnam in the time to come in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency prior to the advent of the Year of the Dragon.

Vietnam wants to boost investment cooperation with India in the fields of information-technology, biotechnology, renewable energy, machinery building, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, among others.
