Improving productivity has become an important issue in Vietnam, especially in the context of international integration. Fact has shown that technology application in many firms has significantly helped increase labour productivity.
Previously, to meet production demand for its electric board manufacturing chain, this firm needed sevenlabourers. However after they invested in a Japanese CNC automatic chain, only one or two workers are needed.
Pham Duc Thinh, General Director of An Khanh Precise Mechanical Joint Stock Company said: "Productivity has increased significantly since we improved our technology."
In the past Vietnam’s labour productivity was much lower than regional countries’, equivalent to 7% ofthat of Singapore and 87.4 % of Laos.
Technological application plays a big role in the matter of how to improve productivity in businesses, said Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of Vietnam Productivity Institute under the Ministry of Science and Technology..
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, technology advances contribute nearly 30 percent tolabour productivity, and labour productivity of an enterprise will at least double if it completely applies technology.
Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh told reporters: "We will focus on research and technological transfer to increase productivity. We will also work with leading technological firms, supporting firms and start-up businesses to boost Vietnam’s labour productivity."
In recent years, many national programmes, scientific and technological development funds have made efforts to help Vietnamese enterprises access new technologies.
The Government has also created favourable conditions and source of capital to help enterprises renovate technology and increase production productivity. However, more practical policies are needed to help enterprises raise their productivity.-VNA
