Get-togethers have been held recently in France, Russia, Canada, and Italy for overseas Vietnamese to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

Hanoi (VNA) – Get-togethers have been held recently in France, Russia, Canada,and Italy for overseas Vietnamese to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

On February 3, the General Union of Vietnamese People inFrance (UGVF) held the largest-scale Tet (Lunar New Year) gathering at PavillonBaltard centre, attracting the participation of over 2,000 overseas Vietnamese(OVs).

The UGVF organised booths with many culinary specialties andhandicrafts, imbued with Vietnamese cultural traditions.

Participants were also entertained with art performances andfolk games of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Association and the VietnameseBusiness Association in Russia jointly held the “Xuan Que huong” (HomelandSpring) programme.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi recalledoutstanding achievements of the nation as well as Vietnam-Russia relationsin the past year, which were partly contributed by the Vietnamese community inRussia.

Khoi reiterated the Party and State's consistent policy thatthe Vietnamese community abroad, including OVs in Russia, is an inseparable partand a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community.

On the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Ottawa alsoorganised a Tet gathering for Vietnamese people living, working, and studyingin Canada.

On February 2 evening, a similar event was also organised in Milan city bythe Vietnamese Embassy in Italy./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Book fair improves knowledge for young Vietnamese in Russia

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.

Second government legislation meeting reviews draft bills

In his opening speech, PM Pham Minh Chinh revealed the Government’s plan to submit 63 documents and reports to the 15th NA’s 9th session, including 37 draft laws and regulatory resolutions, all aimed at having a wide-ranging impact on society. Earlier this month, feedback was provided on six other draft laws and resolutions.
