Text-to-donate campaign seeks support for COVID-19 fight

A text message campaign for making donations to the fight against COVID-19 and the “vaccines for workers” programme were launched in Hanoi on June 3 as Vietnam exerts every effort to contain its latest outbreak.

Hanoi (VNA) - A text message campaign for making donations to thefight against COVID-19 and the “vaccines for workers” programme were launchedin Hanoi on June 3 as Vietnam exerts every effort to contain its latest outbreak.

The launch, held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) CentralCommittee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Ministry ofInformation and Communications, saw the presence of Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue.

All donations via text messages sent to the National Humanitarian Portalon 1400 will be transferred to the COVID-19 vaccine fund and used to assistanti-COVID-19 activities, with priority given to the procurement of vaccinesfor workers and the disadvantaged.

Addressing the event, NA Chairman Hueasked VFF member organisations to increase communications to help people fromall social strata understand the purpose of the text campaign.

President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Dinh Khangalso appealed to organisations, individuals, agencies, and enterprises tocontinue giving material and spiritual support to the COVID-19 fight.

At the launch, Hanoi trade unions presented initial donations of 12billion VND (nearly 522,000 USD) to the COVID-19 vaccine fund. Other tradeunions at ministries and agencies contributed nearly 146 billion VND to the“vaccines for workers” programme./

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).
