Bangkok (VNA/NNT) – The President of Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has chaired a meeting to discuss closer cooperation between ASEAN and the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said on September 20 that he found the recent meeting of AIPA members with regional leaders on the sidelines of the 28th ASEAN Summit in Laos quite beneficial as it had offered knowledge related to the legislative work to all participating regional leaders.
He said the meeting should be useful for the elevation of cooperation at all levels between the executive and legislative bodies.
He added that the discussion had also shed light on the exchange of regional information to enhance the continuation of collaboration between AIPA and ASEAN.
Meanwhile, former Thai MP Isara Sunthornwat is ready to take up the position of Secretary-General of AIPA on October 1 for a term of three years (until September 30, 2019).-VNA
