Thailand 's personal computer market will rebound and show growth next year as the tablet market nears saturation and the computer replacement cycle begins, according to a Thai newspaper.
The desktop and notebook computer market is set to revive in 2015 and will continue growing by 5 percent to 3.5 million units by 2019, Jarit Sidhu, senior market analyst at IDC Thailand was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.
However, PC sales in Thailand will not reach 4 million units again as in their glory days due to tablets and smartphones eating into market share, Jarit added. This year, the PC market is bracing for a record contraction of 30 percent, with sales of 2.4 million units.
According to Nitipat Praweenwongwuthi, associate marketing director at Acer Computer, the local PC market shrank by 36 percent in the last six months, with 1.18 million units sold because smartphone and tablet sales remain strong.
