Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha (Photo: Xinhua/VNA)Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on June 27 that he will not resign if Thai people reject a draft constitution in a referendum in August.
He told reporters in Bangkok that Thais should not compare him to British Prime Minister David Cameron who announced his resignation last week after Britain voted in a referendum to leave the European Union.
The Thai Government will carry out political and economic reforms before a general election will be held in 2017, he said.
The draft constitution, announced by the Thai Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) in March, is expected to be a solution to the political crisis which had prolonged over a decade in Thailand.
A referendum on the 105-page document with 279 articles will be held on August 7. If it is approved, the general election will take place in July 2017 as pledged by the Prime Minister.-VNA
