Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced on November 29 that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha had made a successful state visit to Germany and had assured his host that a general election in Thailand is still slated for February.
Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Busadee Santipitak said that the PM’s November 27-28 trip to Germany boded well for Thailand, as new guidelines for further cooperation indicate that Thailand is benefitting from the recognition of the international community.
In their meeting, the premier discussed issues of security, peace, climate change, and refugees with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Chancellor also declared support for the general election in Thailand, expressing hope that it will proceed with transparency and fairness. Gen Prayut assured her that the general election will take place early next year. He also asked Angela Merkel to clarify with the European Union Thailand’s commitment to tackling illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and human trafficking.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister invited German businessmen to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor’s railway and carmaking segments and to help improve Thailand’s vocational education syllabus to produce skilled personnel for the industry 4.0 era.-VNA
