Petch Thai Patana Company of Thailand and Singapore’s FoodNet consultancy group on October 16 signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in developing a safe food production zone.
Covering 162 ha in Petchaburi, about 150 km away from Bangkok, the four-phase project has an estimated investment of 8 million USD.
Production areas are expected to cover 70 percent of the zone while the rest will be reserved for a distribution area, a wholesale centre and an administrative office.
FoodNet said that food security and safety has been a concern in the region and Singapore’s high food safety requirements are internationally recognised. Singapore now ranks fifth in the world in terms of food safety.
Besides, Singapore’s companies and organisations are involved in the development of a food industry park in China’s northeastern province of Jilin.-VNA
