Thailand arrests suspect of military hospital bombing

Thai authorities on June 15 said that a suspect was arrested in connection with a bomb attack on the Phramongkutkao military hospital in central Bangkok last month.

Hanoi (VNA) – Thai authorities on June 15 said that a suspectwas arrested in connection with a bomb attack on the Phramongkutklao military hospitalin central Bangkok last month.

ThaiDefence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan announced a 62-year-old man was caught and isnow under interrogation. However, he gave no indication of the suspect’s motiveor affiliation to the bombing.

The bombing at the Phramongkutklao military hospital in Ratchathewi province on May 22injured at least 24 people. The incident came on the third anniversary of the Thaiarmy's seizure of power.

After the attack, authorities of Thailand have stepped up securitymeasures and ordered nationwide security agencies to be on alert.

Police has also set up 27 control posts operating around the clock inthe capital city. The locations under tight control are military steeringoffices, civil agencies, railway stations, shopping malls and airports.

Meanwhile, embassies of some countries like the UK, Canada and Australiawarned citizens to be vigilant when staying in Thailand and avoid crowdedplaces as well as the bomb scenes.

In an effort to ease the international community’s worry, Thai Ministerof Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai said his Government assures that Thailandremains safe for international visitors.-VNA
