Thailand expects to welcome around 25 million tourist arrivals in2014, one million lower than that of last year due to the politicaldisputes in earlier this year, according to the Thai Ministry of Tourismand Sports.
The ministry also said that the existing martial lawwill not obstruct the tourism sector’s growth after the governmentapproves a tourism campaign for 2015 called Discover Thainess, whichuses the Thai way of life as the main selling point.
The tourism industry, which accounted for nearly 10 percent of thecountry's gross domestic product, has not been recovering fully becausethe number of visitors in the first nine months fell more than 10percent from a year earlier to 17.5 million people.
The Discover Thainess campaign, to be launched in 12 provinces, isexpected to present the country's new perspective to the world andencourage foreign visitors to stay longer and spend more.
Thecampaign intends to attract specific groups including wedding andhoneymoon holidaymakers, golf enthusiasts and eco-tourism travelers.
It also introduces foreign visitors new experiences through culturaland community tourism with the aim at generating a revenue of 1.9trillion THB this year and 2.2 trillion THB in 2015.-VNA
