Thailand expects to open Bangkok's new railway station in 2020

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has said that the Bang Sue Grand Station of Bangkok, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, is expected to open to public in the third quarter of 2020.

Bangkok (VNA) – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has said that theBang Sue Grand Station of Bangkok, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia,is expected to open to public in the third quarter of 2020.

SRT acting director Worawut Mala said the construction of the station is nearly50 percent completed. It is expected to complete before November next year andput into operation in the third quarter of 2020.

After Bang Sue Grand station is opened, all trains starting now from thecurrent Bangkok Railway Station will be gradually transferred to Bang Sue, headded.

Covering some 300,000 sq.m, the station is a three-story building, with thefirst floor being the reception hall, the second being platforms for normaltrains, suburban trains and the third being platforms for high-speed trains.There is also a parking lot under-group and connection with Bangkok's metroBlue Line.  

The current Bangkok Railway Station was operational in 1916.-VNA
