Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan Ocha on November 22 directed security agencies to investigate a report of the Australian Federation Police informing some Thais were linked to the Islamic State (IS) group.
The Australian police found the information on social networks and websites of the terror group.
Investigation must be meticulous as a preventive solution, particularly when IS-operated attacks have taken place in many countries, threatening thousands of people’s lives, according to the PM’s order.
In a speech, Deputy PM and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said the Special Branch Police and Immigration Bureau have been ordered to check information of some Thais who have an underground cooperation with IS. However, there has been no clue on financial support of the country’s citizens to the group.
Earlier, Deputy National Police Chief Srivarah Rangsipramanakul disclosed that some Thais were suspected to support the IS in Syria, adding that the suspected have travelled to Syria and provided financial support for the IS group.-VNA
