Hanoi (VNA) – Thai pro-democracy demonstrators gathered at Bangkok’s Thammasat University on March 24, demanding the Government and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to run a general election in November 2018 as promised last year.

They said more marches will be held if their demand is not satisfied.

Rangsiman Rome, one of the protest leaders, said the protesters want the army to stop backing the NCPO and withdraw from politics.

The protest leaders called for dissolution of the NCPO, and for a general election to be held in November as initially promised by the Prayut Chan-o-cha government.

After the Thai army seized power in 2014, the NCPO has delayed the election for several times, with the latest date expected to be February 2019.-VNA
