- Thailand is planning to promote cross-border trade and investment with its neighbours, particularly Myanmar.

Deputy Director-General of the Thai Department of Foreign Trade Adul Chotinisakorn said on December 11 that the department has planned a project to boost Thailand-Myanmar trade, which will be held on December 14 and 15.

He said that the project is scheduled to take place simultaneously in Mae Sot district of Tak province and Myawaddy district of Myanmar’s Kayin state.

During the project, the department will match business operators from both countries and sign an agreement on exchange of export-import regulations and related information, organise activities to promote logistics operators of Thailand and Myanmar, as well as stage a seminar on cross-border transportation of goods.

According to Adul, Thailand-Myanmar border trade accounts for around 80 percent of total trade between the two countries.

During the first 10 months of this year, Thailand-Myanmar border trade amounted to over 150 billion THB, with Tak noted as a key trading gateway between the neighbours.-VNA
