Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Government on December 21 officially imposed a ban on shrimp imports from India for three months over concerns about the spreading of infectious Myonecrosis virus (IMNV) which causes muscle necrosis in shrimps.
Under the decision, Thailand’s Department of Fisheries will stop licensing import of five categories of shrimps – Penaeus esculentus, Fenneropenaeus, Penoeus vannamei, Pernaeus monodon, and Penaeus stylirostris.
Thailand is the second country that applied the ban of shrimp imports from India.
On November 29, Kuwait also imposed a ban on imports of fresh, chilled and frozen shrimps from India, citing suspected cases of diseases.
