Bangkok (VNA) – Thai authorities have completed the registration of 400,000 migrant labourers from Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, and there remain 1.6 million unregistered workers, of whom around 1 million had their citizenship verified.
Thailand’s Ministry of Labour recently requested relevant agencies to shorten the registration of migrant workers at One Stop Service Centres (OSS) in a bid to accomplish the verification of citizenship and registration of work permits on schedule.
Those who have finished procedures are allowed to work in Thailand until March 31, 2020, according to the ministry.
Minister of Labour Adul Sangsingkeo asked OSSs nationwide to fulfill the registration of migrant labourers before March 31, 2018.
There are currently 80 OSSs across the country, of which five centres in Bangkok are urgently conducting necessary procedures for migrant labourers.
The Ministry of Labour also opened a website to help migrant labourers update their employment status after their citizenship is verified.-VNA
