Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to forge bilateral cooperation to clamp down on human trafficking and assist victims.
Thai Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Gen Anantaporn Kanjanarat gave a warm welcome to HE Mr Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, and his entourage. On behalf of the Thai and UAE governments, the two officials joined in a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding on anti-human trafficking cooperation.
According to Gen Anantaporn, the agreement covers three areas of focus, which are the protection of human trafficking victims, enforcement of the law against offenders and reintegration of victims back to society. Under the deal, the signatories are committed to keeping victims’ information confidential and ensuring their safety while coordination processes will be shortened to allow for prompt assistance.
On this occasion, the UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed thanks to Thailand for placing importance on human trafficking prevention even though there have not been any cases of human trade between the two countries.-VNA

A Bangkok court in Thailand convicted dozens on July 19 in a major human trafficking case which was uncovered in 2015, involving more than 100 defendants and a senior army officer.
