Bangkok (VNA/NNT) – The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has geared up to host the 2nd World Irrigation Forum (WIF), preparing to suggest water management approaches in Southeast Asia and better use of the Mekong River water resources.
Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Gen Chatchai Sarikalya chaired the latest meeting of the 2nd WIF’s organising committee, which is also responsible for the 67th International Executive Council Meeting (IEC). Both events are to be hosted in Chiang Mai on November 6-12.
Chatchai explained that the WIF will serve as an opportunity for irrigation officials from across the world to exchange ideas and approaches for better water management, elaborating that they aim to strike a balance between water, food, energy and the environment.
A major topic expected to be discussed will be the effects of climate change and how to deal with both drought and flooding.
Thailand plans to give recommendations on how to manage water among the country and its neighbours, especially along the Mekong River.-VNA
