Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has detected signs on social media of intent to provoke a public disturbance during the week of the funeral for late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Army Chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart said on October 2 that those seeking to provoke disturbance were in fact the same group of people who were accused of having violated the Kingdom’s lese majeste law and subsequently fled the country.

He stressed that there would be nothing to worry about but people should keep their eyes open for anyone with ill intent.

The funeral of the late monarch was the most significant event of the country, he said, adding that officers would continue to take care of security issues, especially in and around the funeral compound.

King Bhumibol Abdulyadej passed away on October 13, 2016, at the age of 88 after nearly seven decades of reigning Thailand.

The official coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn will be held after the late King’s cremation, slated for October 26.-VNA
