Bangkok (VNA) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) of Thailand approved the national strategy bill on June 22.
Critics say the bill will ensure the military’s role in Thailand’s politics for at least 20 years after a general election tentatively set for 2018.
The NLA enacts the National Strategy Act as law, said Pornpetch Wichitcholchaik, NLA President.
The law will set up a national strategy committee to be chaired by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. It will include the heads of the armed forces, secretary-general of the National Security Council, chairmen of the National Economic and Social Development Board, and experts in other fields.
The committee will coordinate with the cabinet of future governments to revise plans for national strategy for every five years in the next two decades. -VNA
