Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on April 21 passed in principle a bill on the Election Commission (EC) and another on political parties.
The two bills are essential for the next election which is scheduled for late 2018.
The Law on the Election Commission was endorsed with 210 approval votes out of 220 while the Law on Political Parties was approved with 175 votes.
Both laws were submitted by the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) and CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan took charge of presenting the draft bills to the NLA.
The NLA members debated several issues, notably the replacement of provincial EC commissioners by central election observers and political parties’ operations. They approved the bills in principle but the contents recommended for revisions will be adjusted within 45 days.-VNA
