Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Police in the north central province of Thanh Hoa on August 6 announced a successful joint operation against a transnational drug trafficking ring, apprehending four suspects and seizing 34kg of methamphetamine.

On August 2, three suspects were caught red-handed by authorities at a bus station in local Ngoc Lac district, while illegally transporting drugs. They are Sung Van Ho, born in 1997, Ho Van Gia, born in 2005, and Thao Chu Ly, born in 1996, all from local Muong Lat district.

At the scene, the police seized 32 nylon packages containing white crystalline substances weighing approximately 32kg. Initial interrogation revealed that the methamphetamine was intended for delivery to Hanoi for distribution.

Further investigation led to the arrest and urgent search of Nguyen Tinh’s residence in Hanoi, where an additional 2kg of methamphetamine was found. Tinh, born in 1986, resides in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre’s Chau Thanh district.

The preliminary investigation indicates that this is an organised, complex drug trafficking network operating across provinces and international orders. The suspects frequently changed transaction locations in mountainous, difficult-to-access areas, complicating efforts to combat and dismantle the operation. Tinh was identified as the key figure that coordinated with contacts across the border and directed Sung Van Ho, Ho Van Gia, and Thao Chu Ly to transport the drugs to Hanoi for distribution in northern provinces.

The Thanh Hoa Police’s drug crime investigation division has detained the suspects for further investigation and is working with other relevant units to continue investigation into the case./.
