The 31st SEA Games: Thousands of volunteers to serve the opening ceremony in the rain

On the afternoon of May 12th, under the heavy rain, thousands of volunteers from the Hanoi Youth Union entered My Dinh National Stadium to receive assignments for the opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games.

At about 2 p.m., when the volunteers gathered outside the stadium, it rained sporadically and started to have strong winds. By 2:15pm, there was heavy rain and lightning, making it difficult for volunteers to move into the stadium.

There will be a total of about 3.000 volunteers participating in the opening ceremony, most of which were students.Among them, there were 100 volunteers supporting security outside such as ticket checking and traffic regulation; 100 volunteers assisting in the stadium, leading international and Vietnamese guests to their seats.

These 200 volunteers were trained in English and could be flexible to take on a variety of tasks. The remaining volunteers were stage cheerleaders and ready to give their best for a grand and vibrant opening ceremony.

In addition, there were another group of volunteers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, with side activities to ensure a “green SEA Games”. This group of volunteers assisted in maintaining general hygiene, opening a garbage exchange for gifts, and mobilizing people to limit the use of single-use plastic.../.
