This festival marks the Lao New Year according to the Buddhist calendar. This year, the celebration was held on April 14 in Na Sang 1 Village, Nua Ngam Commune, Dien Bien District, Dien Bien Province, one of the largest Lao communities in the Northwest of Vietnam.
Perhaps the most exciting part is the water splashing activity to wash away the bad luck of the old year, and pray for favorable weather and good fortune in the new year.
This year, the event welcomes the Devclan Children's Volunteer Club from Hanoi. The club helped create water sprayers and donated plastic barrels for the villagers to enjoy the festival.
Before the water splashing activity, the village elders tie threads around the wrists of villagers and visiting tourists for blessings, collecting rainwater from local households and taking it to the stream to perform a spiritual ritual./.
