Tien Giang’s tourism sector to take off

A wide range of activities will be organised at the Culture-Sport-Tourism Festival in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang from January 10-14, hoping to create momentum for the local tourism to thrive.

Tien Giang (VNA) – A wide range of activities will be organised atthe Culture-Sport-Tourism Festival in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giangfrom January 10-14, hoping to create momentum for the local tourism to thrive.

Exhibitions, fairs, cuisine festivals and a forum on tourism startups arescheduled during the event.

According to Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports andTourism Nguyen Duc Dam, the locality welcomed more than 2 million visitors in2018, including 811,000 foreigners, up 8.98 percent and 10.42 percent from theprevious year, respectively. More than 992 billion VND (42.79 million USD) wasgenerated from tourism services, equivalent to 109.66 percent of the yearlyplan and up 26.19 percent from 2017.

A report from the provincial People’s Committee shows that during 2013-2017,more than 1.9 trillion VND (81.96 million USD) was poured into tourismdevelopment. The province witnessed an average tourist growth of 7.95 percentin the five-year period.

As a new feature in the local policy, tourism connection inside and outside theprovince is part of local authorities’ efforts to promote sustainable tourismdevelopment. Tourists have been impressed by new tours linking Cai Be tourismsite (Cai Be district) with Tan Phong islet (Cai Lay district) and Binh HoaPhuoc islet (Vinh Long province), and other waterway tours to An Giangprovince, Can Tho city and Cambodia.

Tien Giang province is now famous for community-based, cultural, spiritual andhealth care tourism, with such fascinating destinations as Thoi Son islet, DongHoa Hiep ancient village, floating market and traditional craft village in CaiBe district, orchard garden in Tan Phong islet, Dong Thap Muoi ecologicalconservation area, and Truc Lam Chanh giac monastery.

In 2019, Tien Giang province targets 2.1 million tourists, including 850,000foreigners, and 1.14 trillion VND (49.19 million USD) in tourism revenue.-VNA

Coast Guard Region 3 intensifies patrols to combat IUU fishing

After ten days of implementing a peak campaign against IUU fishing from October 29 to November 8, patrol and inspection forces of Coast Guard Region 3, in coordination with Border Guard Squadron 18, detected and fined 54 fishing vessels, collecting more than 580 million VND (about 22,000 USD) in fines.

Vietnam Red Cross launches emergency aid for storm-hit provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has decided to allocate over 3.3 billion VND (125,472 USD) in cash and goods to assist Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai provinces, with the funding from its H2025 relief account at Vietcombank and from the “Clean Water for Communities” project, sponsored by Procter & Gamble (P&G) through Americares.

Vietnamese, Chinese border guards coordinate to promote legal awareness among residents

During the four-day programme, thousands of leaflets were distributed, covering topics such as border management agreements and protocols, the agreement on regulations for management of the Vietnam–China land border, immigration and customs laws, border gate management, and measures to combat smuggling and trade fraud, as well as the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty and border security.
