HCM City (VNA) – Party General Secretary and President To Lam on August 17 presented the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security.

On this occasion, the municipal Party Committee and the Central Public Security Party Committee reviewed the 55 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh’s Testament (1969-2024).

Addressing the event, Lam noted that the testament sheds light on key issues in Party building and the relationship between the Party and the people, and gave comprehensive orientations for the cause of national liberation and reunification, as well as post-war national construction.

It helped consolidate the will and determination of the Vietnamese Party, army and people, and led the Vietnamese revolution to the complete victory, the leader continued.

He lauded the performance of the public security force, Party members, officials and people in HCM City in implementing the testament and continuing the great revolutionary cause to which the President devoted his lifetime.

The top leader said the public security force, including that in HCM City, has always taken the lead in implementing the Party’s resolutions, directives and conclusions on Party building; resolutely and persistently fought against corruption and other negative phenomena; and strived to build a truly pure, powerful, regular, elite and modern force as the late President wished.

Lam asked the municipal Party Committee and the Party Committee of the Department of Public Security to maintain their good performance in Party building and rectification, and work harder in the corruption combat and administrative reform.

It is a must to safeguard the Fatherland early and from afar, he said, noting the targets of reducing crimes sustainably, and building communes, districts and provinces free from crimes.

He urged HCM City to promote the “All people safeguarding security” movement and the engagement of the entire political system and all people in protecting security and order to build a civilised, modern, innovative and creative city, while taking breakthrough solutions to grow more strongly, becoming an economic, financial and service centre of Asia, and an attractive destination of the world, with its development on par with major urban areas globally.

Lam stressed the need to pay more heed to building a contingent of officials and Party members who always put national interests as well as people’s legitimate interests at first and foremost.

Earlier, the Party and State leader and a delegation of HCM City and the Central Public Security Party Committee paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in the southern metropolis./.
