Hanoi (VNA) – An exhibition on TorresStrait masks will be introduced in Vietnam for the first time by the Australian Embassy to Vietnam together with the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology.

The two-month-long exhibition at Hanoi’s Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is part of activities celebratingthe 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Representatives from the Embassy, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, theVietnam Museum of Ethnology and other cultural institutions will attend theopening ceremony which will take place on May 18, according to the AustralianEmbassy.

Torres Strait is a network of islands located between Northern Australia andPapua New Guinea.  The people of thisarea maintain vibrant artistic, spiritual and cultural traditions.

The making and wearing of beautifullydecorated masks is one of the region’s most distinctive traditions. Whilerooted in ancient protocols and spirituality, masks and mask making today arecelebrated as expressions of artistic and cultural revival.-VNA

Project on digital transformation in cultural sector approved

By 2030, the project targets the establishment of shared digital platforms across 100% of cultural sectors. All digitised cultural heritage will be standardised under the national data framework and shared in accordance with regulations, while 80% of public digital heritage assets are expected to receive digital identifiers to clarify ownership and management, encouraging organisations and individuals to do the same and support market development.
