Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 15 sent a message of sympathy to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese over a shooting that occurred on December 14 at Bondi beach in Sydney, New South Wales, resulting in multiple civilian casualties.

Addressing the gathering that drew more than 300 guests, Vietnamese Consul General in Sydney Nguyen Thanh Tung highlighted contributions of the Vietnamese community in Australia, particularly intellectuals and professionals, to the host society as well as cooperation between the two countries.

Established in 2022, AVPI serves as a forum for exchanging ideas among businesses, government agencies, non-profits, universities, and scholars in Australia on Vietnam. The institute acts as a platform for policy dialogue, focusing on research and insights on strategic relations and bilateral economic ties.

Educational cooperation between Vietnam and Australia has a long-standing tradition and remains a pillar of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Australia currently hosts around 36,000 Vietnamese students, while some 160,000 Vietnamese have graduated from Australian universities.

The meeting with Australia’s La Trobe University aimed to explore the possibility of establishing the first international-standard training institution of the Mekong Delta in Can Tho.

The Vietnamese community is an important part of Perth’s multicultural fabric, contributing significantly to its economic, cultural and social life, said Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds.

VNAT Deputy Director Ha Van Sieu stressed that Vietnam is recognised as one of the top travel destinations in Southeast Asia, offering endless beauty and rich cultural heritage, where visitors can explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, relax on tropical beaches stretching over 3,000 km nationwide, and enjoy world-class hotels, resorts, and entertainment services.

Sen. Lt. Gen. Le Quang Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), proposed that Australia share its experience and apply advanced technologies in research, data aggregation, investigation, classification, extraction of information, and the preservation of records to support Vietnam’s efforts to search for and repatriate the remains of its fallen soldiers.

Over the past five years, OV entrepreneurs in Australia have invested more than 1.8 billion USD in Vietnam and brought hundreds of Vietnamese products into major Australian supermarket chains, while also transferring technology and introducing to Vietnam modern management models, ERP solutions, blockchain-based traceability systems, and clean food processing technologies.

Ranjit Thambyrajah, a 65-year-old Australian who heads Berhero company operating under the name Acuity Funding based in Australia, while serving as General Director of Nam Song Hau Petroleum Trading and Investment JSC; and Nguyen Viet Anh, 43, a dual Vietnamese-Australian national running Acuity Funding Vietnam and Deputy General Director of the same Vietnamese company, allegedly defrauded multiple businesses and individuals.

Also highly evaluating the Australia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, participating Members of Parliament noted that there is still significant potential for cooperation and expressed their readiness to contribute to promoting the friendship and cooperation between Australia and Vietnam in general, as well as collaboration between the two parliaments in particular.
