Tourist numbers plummet in first four months

There were more than 2.2 million airlinepassengers, while 439,100 and 24,200 tourists entered Vietnam by roadand water, respectively. All three groups experienced a drop up to 30percent from 2014.

The volume of Asiantravellers was 1.73 million people, falling 12.9 percent year on year,with the number of Chinese, Lao, Cambodian, Thai and Indonesiannationals showing the highest decreases, ranging from 21 to 36 percent.Meanwhile, more tourists from the Republic of Korea and Singaporevisited Vietnam.

There was also a decrease inEuropean visitors, with an annual 8.4 percent drop overall. In contrast,the Americas contributed 229,500 tourists, equalling a year-on-yearincrease of 3 percent.

Industry experts will nowstart assessing the reasons behind the significant drop, especially asthe number of tourist arrivals was targeted to rise this year.-VNA

Do Ha Thao, Secretary in charge of cultural affairs at the embassy, said that visitors show great interest in the Vietnamese booth, asking for information about tours and promotional programmes. Some of the visitors had previously been to Vietnam and wish to return.

Binh Thuan province remains tourist magnet

In the first three months, the province welcomed 2.6 million visitors, including 152,000 foreigners, up nearly 14% and 17% year-on-year, respectively. Tourism revenue surpassed 7 trillion VND, marking a year-on-year rise of 16%.
