Tra Vinh (VNA) – Authorities of the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh will work with the provincial startup community to promptly address its troubles, Chairman of the People’s Committee Dong Van Lam said on September 14.

The official made the pledge during a seminar on startup investment and development in Tra Vinh province, with the participation of more than 50 businesses and startups in the locality.

At the event, the startup community shared current difficulties, particularly obstacles in capital for infrastructure, lack of information on State policies, and the need to build local brands and partnerships, among others.

The province has launched various activities and programmes to support business development, Lam said, speaking highly of the role of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the provincial socio-economic development.

Accordingly, Tra Vinh has built a business incubator, which provides incentives for investment in all fields, especially in areas pertaining to the province’s advantages, such as agriculture, aquaculture, and tourism.

The province will ask relevant agencies to remove barriers in credit sources, legal procedures, technology application, and brand building, creating optimal conditions for local startups, he said.

The Canadian Government has rolled out many activities to facilitate SME development in Tra Vinh over the years, and will continue to support the province in the building of a startup ecosystem, said Jared Brading, head of the Canadian Embassy to Vietnam’s development cooperation services who attended the seminar.

The SME Tra Vinh development project is being carried out in the province over the 2014-2020 period. It is funded by the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) with a total investment worth 12.1 million CAD (9.31 million USD).

Of the figure, 11 million CAD came from Canada’s non-refundable aid, while the remaining was sourced from the province’s capital.

To date, about 200 firms and over 194,000 people in the province’s 22 communes have benefited from the project.–VNA
