HCM City (VNA) – A tradepromotion fair for cooperatives nationwide kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City onApril 17.

The four-day event is jointly held by the VietnamCooperative Alliance (VCA)and the Institute of Vietnam OrganicAgricultural Economics.

It hosts over 350booths of domestic cooperatives and firms and foreign countries such as Japan,Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, among others.

On display areproducts in agro-forestry-fishery and industrial sectors, including farmingmachines and plant protection products.

Speaking at theopening ceremony, VCA President Nguyen Ngoc Bao said the Party and Governmentof Vietnam have issued various incentives to support economic development ofcooperatives nationwide.

Various programmesto introduce products of cooperatives have been held across the country andoverseas, he added.

Vietnam is currentlyhome to more than 22,400 cooperatives totalling 7 million members. Of this,13,000 cooperatives are in agriculture.

Farmers areencouraged to join in cooperatives to develop their products and raisecompetitiveness in the market, ensuring sustainable production, Bao noted. -VNA

As head of the steering committee, PM Chinh reiterated the strategic direction outlined in the 13th National Party Congress, which emphasises the need to continue three strategic breakthroughs, with priority given to railway development and starting work on several sections of the North–South high-speed railway, improving transport connectivity with economic zones, industrial parks, seaports, and airports, and accelerating the pace of urban railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
