Traffic accident death toll reaches 300 during Tet

According to preliminary statistics released by the Railway, Road Police Department under the Ministry of Security, more than 400 road accidents were recorded during the period, 100 cases higher than last year.

Almost all victims of traffic accidents have been found to have alcohol in their blood.

In the first five days of the festival, 13 road accidents were reported in Hanoi , with 11 deaths and three injuries, year-on-year decreases of 7.1, 15.4 and 25 percent in the number of accidents, deaths and injuries, respectively.

In Ho Chi Minh City , almost 925 patients were rushed to hospitals in the first three days, representing a decrease of 30 percent over 2009 while the number of domestic accidents dropped 10 percent to 654. However, the number of brain injuries doubled over last year.

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue confirmed 10 deaths due to traffic accidents in the first four days of Tet.

On the occasion, nine road accidents in the central province of Quang Ngai caused seven deaths and nine injuries./.
