Tram beats third seed at Asian championship

Vietnamese Grandmaster Hoang Thi Bao Tram defeated third seed Munguntuul Batkhuyag of Mongolia to rank second in the women’s category at the ongoing Asian Individual Chess Championship.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese Grandmaster Hoang Thi Bao Tram defeated third seed Munguntuul Batkhuyag of Mongolia to rank second in the women’s category at the ongoing Asian Individual Chess Championship.

After three rounds, Tram had 2.5 points and ranked behind Pourkashiyan Atousa of Iran, who is in the top position with three points.

Tram, the national champion, will next play Li Xueyi of China.

Atousa will play Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, who is currently ranked fifth.

In the men’s side, GM Le Quang Liem continued to lead the group by winning all his three matches.

The number one seed will next play GM Wen Yang of China.

Liem’s two teammates, Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, have two points each and were out of top 20 players.

The championship, which provides World Cup 2017 tickets to the best players, will end on June 5 in Uzbekistan.-VNA
