The transport sector should aim to meet the national economy’sdevelopment demand in the new period, affirmed Prime Minister Nguyen TanDung.
The Government leader made the instructionwhile attending a ceremony to mark the 65 h anniversary of thetransport sector (August 28, 1945-2010) held in Hanoi on August 24.
To reach this goal, the sector should focus onstrengthening the efficiency of State management work and continue tocomplete its institutional system and development planning strategies,he said.
It also needs to boost the applicationof new technologies, strengthen construction investment management andwaste prevention as well as improve the quality and progress of trafficworks, he added.
The PM asked the sector to speedup the comprehensive development of transport forms, develop the trafficmechanics industry and encourage the participation of all economicsectors in this field.
The sector should implementdrastic and synchronous measures on traffic safety in an effort toreduce accidents as well as enhance educational campaigns to raisepublic awareness of traffic safety, he noted.
Overpast years, the transport sector has built a number of regional-scaleprojects such as Thang Long, Chuong Duong, My Thuan, Thanh Tri and BaiChay bridges, Hai Van tunnel, Cai Lan deepwater port, Noi BaiInternational Airport’s T1 terminal and the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luongexpressway.
Throughout the country, almost allnational roads, bridges, airports and ports have been built andupgraded. The rural traffic network has been reaching into remote areasand helping to improve people’s lives.
Notably,Ho Chi Minh Road , the country’s second trans-Vietnam way, which is ofgreat significance to national socio-economic development, security anddefence, has seen its first phase basically completed./.
