Typhoon Haima enters East Sea

Typhoon Haima has passed north of Luzon island, the Philippines, to enter the northeast of the East Sea, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting announced on October 20.

Hanoi (VNA) – Typhoon Haima has passed north of Luzon island, the Philippines, to enter the northeast of the East Sea, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting announced on October 20.

At 8am, the typhoon was centred at 18.5 degrees north latitude and 120.0 degrees east longitude with strongest wind speed reaching 135-150km per hour.

In the next 24 hours, the storm is forecast to move northwest at a speed of 20-25km per hour.

As of 7am on October 21, it will be nearly 220km southeast of Hong Kong (China).

In the next 24-48 hours, Haima will move north-northwest, then likely to change direction to north-northeast at a speed of 20-25km per hour, and weaken into a tropical pressure.

As of 7am on October 22, the eye of the tropical pressure is forecast to be on the mainland of Guangxi province, China, bringing sustained winds of 40-50km per hour.-VNA
