Ukraine stands ready to step up bilateral cooperation in agriculture with Vietnam, Oleksiy Pavlenco, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine said in a meeting with Vietnam’s Ambassador to Ukraine Nguyen Minh Tri in Kiev.

The minister noted that the European country is preparing the necessary documents to obtain export permission for its agricultural and food industry products to Vietnam.

The ministry’s press service quoted Pavlenco on October 22 as saying that cooperation in agriculture between the two nations with regard to trade opportunities and cooperation prospects has substantial potential.

Bilateral agricultural products trade totalled 41.6 million USD in the first two quarters of this year. Ukraine exported 14.1 million USD worth of goods to Vietnam and imported 27.5 million USD worth of goods.

Pavlenco said the figure did not fully tap the capacities of both countries, stressing the need to diversify commodities trading between them.

Ukraine hopes to increase the supply of agricultural and food industry products to Vietnam’s market, he added.

Ukraine mainly shipped seeds, meats and dairy products to Vietnam while Vietnam exported fish, rice, spices and fruits.-VNA
