Hanoi (VNA) – The UN training course on building a national plan for senior officers hosted by the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (VPD) closed in Hanoi on April 12.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Rafael Barbieri, head of the delegation of UN experts, said the course completed the set target and satisfied the expectation of participating officers.

He praised the effective support of the Vietnamese side for the course and participants’ active learning spirit, capacity, and professionalism.

The course updated participants on important knowledge and standard practice rules in negotiating, making plans, collecting, preparing, and alternating coordinating units joining UN peacekeeping operations.

VPD Director, Major General Hoang Kim Phung, stressed that the hosting of the course helps the VPD improve its capacity for organising international training courses and has provided Vietnamese officers working at strategic advisory units with relevant knowledge.

Phung expressed his hope that more UN training courses will be organised at the department in the future, saying that the knowledge provided by the course will play a vital role in supporting countries sending their officers and units to UN peacekeeping missions in the future.

The 12-day course saw the participation of 11 experts from the UN’s integrated training agencies as well as 30 officers from 23 member countries of the UN who are working as supervisors and managers of countries’ plans to participate in UN peacekeeping operations.

Vietnam sent five officers to the course, including three military officers and two police officers.–VNA
