Commander of the US 7 th Fleet Vice Admiral Scott H. Swift has embarked on a working visit to Vietnam.
He was received by Lieut. Gen. Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, in Hanoi on Jan. 9, who congratulated the Vice Admiral on his appointment as Commander of the US 7th Fleet.
Defence ties between Vietnam and the US have been promoted in such areas as delegation exchange, training, military medicine, search and rescue and overcoming the aftermath of the war in Vietnam , Tuan said.
Tuan said he believes that the visit to Vietnam will make practical contributions to boosting cooperation for mutual benefit between the two countries in fields, including defence.
Vice Admiral Scott H. Swift said that Vietnam and the US have seen progress in cooperation, especially since the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperation at the deputy minister level.
He said he will do his utmost to contribute to developing cooperation between the two countries./.
