US Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear has stated that the recent US visit by President Truong Tan Sang is a success with a series of high-level exchanges.
Meeting with the media in Hanoi on August 8 on President Sang’s visit, Ambassador Shear noted that the two sides have issued a joint statement on the establishment of Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with specific cooperation content for each field.
According to the ambassador, in order to realise agreements reached by the Vietnamese and US leaders, a series of meetings will take place from now until the end of this year between the two nations’ relevant agencies. They are also due to complete negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
He said the figure of over 25 billion USD in two-way trade turnover in 2012 and an annual growth of 10-15 percent in trade reflect a considerable improvement in bilateral commercial ties.
The diplomat added that on the back of the TPP, Vietnam’s export to TPP member economies will receive a boost. The country will also attract more foreign investment from these economies.-VNA
