Singapore (VNA) – The US appreciates Singapore’s hosting of the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea leader Kim Jong-un slated for June 12.
Singapore’s Foreign Ministry said in a press release on June 6 that Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton during his working visit to Washington, and during the meetings, the two US officials expressed appreciation for Singapore’s hosting of the summit.
Balakrishnan welcomed the upcoming visit of President Trump and the DPRK leader to Singapore and expressed his hope that their meeting will contribute to peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.
On June 5, the White House announced that the US-DPRK summit would take place at the Capella Hotel in Sentosa, Singapore.
The US, the DPRK and Singapore are racing to complete the final preparations to ensure the historic meeting will go smoothly.
The US State Department also said at a regular press briefing on June 5 that the US would not pay for DPRK officials’ accommodations in Singapore during the summit.
The department’s spokesperson Heather Nauert refused to discuss the possibility that President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in will join in the meeting between Trump and Kim in Singapore.
She only confirmed that the US is constantly in conversation with the governments of the RoK and Japan.-VNA
