Phnom Penh (VNA) - The US, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has provided 100,000 USD in immediate humanitarian aid supporting response efforts to severe flooding in Cambodia.

According to a press release of the US Embassy in Cambodia, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance is partnering with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide emergency assistance to people impacted by the flooding.

USAID has provided more than 7 million USD in disaster response, preparedness, and risk reduction assistance in Cambodia since 2000.

Floods in Cambodia have so far left 18 people dead, including eight children, and forced the evacuation of 25,192 people, according to the country’s National Committee for Disaster Management.

Tropical storm-triggered rains caused floods in 19 of the country's 25 cities and provinces since the beginning of the month. The worst-hit provinces included Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Kandal as well as the southwestern suburb of Phnom Penh./.
