The Second Lady of the United States Jill Biden – Vice President Joe Biden’s spouse – visited Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi on July 20 as part of her trip to Vietnam.
State President Truong Tan Sang’s wife Mai Thi Hanh, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh’s wife Nguyen Thi Nguyet Nga accompanied her.
Hanh briefed her guest on the founding and development of Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam – the first university of Vietnam, and expressed her thanks for the US’s assistance to Vietnam’s education and training sector.
She informed Mrs. Biden of Vietnam’s efforts to ensure the rights of women as well as its achievements in the field.
She expressed hope that the two sides would intensify cooperation in education and issues related to women and gender equality.
Biden then visited an orphanage in the capital city before leaving for Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA
