Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) on February 2 inked a contract with the US-based Mitre Corporation for technical assistance for an Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) implementation master plan in Vietnam.
In the context of increased domestic and regional aviation activity, VATM has been implementing strategic solutions to enhance the air navigation capacity. It also requires a master plan on ATFM for providing an integrated vision and a systematic roadmap for implementing ATFM operations in Vietnam.
The project, funded by the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), will be launched in 16 months from the signing date.
It will develop an ATFM vision and devise an implementation plan by 2025 and beyond, as well as build the roadmap for participation in the “Concept of Operations for a distributed multi-nodal ATFM” project in the Asia – Pacific region, and the roadmap for international integration of Vietnam in the field of ATFM.
It will also devise ATFM training plans and guidelines for ATFM human resources development in line with the ATFM implementation roadmap, and provide a representative ATFM system architecture, with technical and operational requirements as a basis for future investment in ATFM equipment and tools.
After the project concludes, VATM will have an established vision and strategy for achieving future ATFM operations, be prepared to implement ATFM operations and train their workforce in the field. It will have a plan to become a regional leader in ATFM operations through participation in the Asia Pacific distributed multi-nodal ATFM operations.
Founded in 1958, the Mitre Corporation is a non-profit organisation which specialises in ATFM research and development. It has participated in the building of ATFM master plan in the US, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Taiwan (China).
In September 2017, VATM and the USTDA also reached a sponsorship deal on the technical assistance for ATFM implementation master plan in Vietnam.-VNA
