Hanoi (VNA) – Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on June 7 metwith delegates who are taking part in the Sunflower Summer Camp 2023.

The Party and State alwayspay attention and create the best condition for children, perfect guidelinesand policies, and take practical actions in child care, education andprotection, she said.

The Vice President praised the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) for takingcare of women and children, especially the humanitarian "adoptive mothers" programme,emphasising that after nearly two years of implementation, it has really becomea fulcrum to spread the love for orphans across the country.

Xuan requested the VWU to continue maintaining the operation andsustainability of the programme, along with raising society's awareness andactions on child care and protection.

In the coming time, it is necessary for the union to study and multiply more models suitable to their assigned functions and tasks to help morewomen and children with special circumstances, she noted.

Extending her gratitude to the kind hearts of adoptive mothers acrossthe country, the Vice President expressed her belief that they will continue topromote the good virtues of Vietnamese women and the tolerance of mothers tocare for, nurture and support children's development.

VWU President Ha Thi Nga said that the union will continue to carryout the programme effectively and practically to take care of childrenand support for adoptive mothers to fulfill their roles, adding that it will also proposemechanisms and policies to enhance the effectiveness of the work.

Launched by the VWU in October 2021,  the programme aims to mobilise and connectindividuals and organisations to support orphaned children due to the COVID-19pandemic. It focuses on encouraging local women where orphans are living tovolunteer to raise and take care of the orphaned children daily.

The programme has mobilised over 115 billion  VND (4.9 million USD) and sponsored 19,760 orphans so far, including over 3,000 orphans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sunflower Summer Camp 2023 offers an opportunity for thechildren who have received support from the programme to meet and exchangewith their peers from all parts of the country./.

OVs in Thailand preserve cultural legacy
