Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh (R) receives Chief Representative of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Youssouf Abdel-Jelil (Photo: VNA) While receiving Chief Representative of the UNChildren’s Fund (UNICEF) Youssouf Abdel-Jelil in Hanoi on August 4, Thinh askedthe UNICEF to continue its support to Vietnam in preventing child abuse,protecting children from injuries, and aiding children of disadvantagedfamilies, especially in remote, border, sea and island areas, in addition toreducing the proportion of children with disabilities and congenital heartdisease.
The Vice President also proposed the UNICEFshare more experience in caring, protecting and supporting children, whilecoordinating with the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City to build achild-friendly city and expand this model to other localities.
She took this occasion to thank the UNICEF for its assistance toand cooperation with Vietnam over the past four decades, thus bringingpractical benefits to Vietnamese children, especially disadvantaged kids.
For his part, Abdel-Jelil expressed his hopedthat sound cooperative ties between Vietnam and the UNICEF would furtherdevelop in the time ahead.
The official hailed the Vietnamese Government’sadoption and enforcement of the Law on Children, describing the move as asignificant achievement of the country.
The UNICEF is willing to support and cooperatewith Vietnam to promote activities to take care of and protect children, hesaid.
The organisation will strengthen coordinationwith the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to build a comprehensivechild development programme in Vietnam to improve intelligence of children,thereby helping the country generate high-quality, competent human resources inthe future.-VNA
