Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan stressed that Vietnam is keen to expand its relations with Qatar in various areas, describing the Persian Gulf nation as an important partner for Vietnam.
She stated this during talks with Crown Prince Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha during her visit to Qatar from June 9-11.
The Vice President expressed her pleasure at the great achievements that Qatar has recorded, which have made the country one of the largest financial and trade hubs in the region.
Crown Prince Al Thani said that Doan’s visit to Qatar underlines the friendship and level of cooperation between the two countries.
He confirmed that his country wants to step up relations in various fields with Vietnam , particularly in investment, labour, education and trade and pledged that his country would soon send a permanent ambassador to Vietnam .
They then informed each other of their respective countries’ socio-economic developments and discussed ways of speeding up agreements reached during the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar in March 2009.
They also agreed to maintain and expand their partnership on energy and food along with developing financial and labour cooperation.
Vice President Doan took the opportunity to convey President Nguyen Minh Triet’s invitation to the King of Qatar to visit Vietnam . She also invited the Crown Prince to visit Vietnam in the near future.
Al Thani accepted the invitation and said that his visit will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
Later the Vice President visited the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and several cultural and economic institutions before meeting with representatives from the Vietnamese community in Qatar./.
